Charlotte Armstrong Lewi, 2 Mayıs 1905 yılında Michigan'da doğdu. Charlotte Armstrong ve Jo Valentine adları altında 28 roman yazdı. Aynı zamanda New York Times'ın reklam bölümünde çalıştı. Breath of the Avenue için moda muhabirliği yaptı. Wisconsin-Madison Üniversitesi'nden mezun olan Armstrong Jack Lewi ile evlendi. Bu evlilikten bir kızı ve iki oğlu oldu. A Dram of Poison (Kırık Hayaller) romanıyla 1957 yılının Edgar En İyi Roman Ödülü'nü kazandı. Romanlarından birçoğu filme uyarlandı.
