Gerçek adı Arthur Leonard Bell Thompson'dur. 1917 yılında Bristol doğumludur. II. Dünya Savaşı sırasında büyük kahramanlıklar gösterdi. The Grosvenor Square Goodbye romanı ile 1974 Gümüş Hançer ödülünü kazandı.
