İsim babalığını Rex Stout’un unutulmaz kahramanından alan ödül, Nero Wolfe tarzından en iyi Amerikan polisiyesine veriliyor. 1979 yılından itibaren dağıtılan ödüllerde, orkideleri severken kadınlardan nefret eden, şişman ve aksi Nero Wolfe’un ayakları işlevi gören bıçkın yardımcısı Archie Goodwin adına da YaşamBoyu Başarı Ödülü, 2005 yılında Rex Stout, Agatha Christie ve Arthur Conan Doyle’a, 2007’de Dorothy L Sayers’a verildi.
